London 2012 Festival

I’m delighted to welcome you to  London at this most exciting time when  sport and culture are at the heart of our  city even more than ever before.

I very  much hope that you will find time to  experience some of the wide range of arts  and cultural activities that are part of the  London 2012 Festival.

Running until Sunday 9 September  when the Paralympics come to a close,  the London 2012 Festival is a superb showcase for the breadth of creativity in  the UK.

With theatre, dance and music events, art exhibitions and installations,  specially commissioned films and unique outdoor spectaculars, there really is  something for everyone.

It’s impossible to pick out highlights as there are so many, but one  particularly unique event during the Olympic Games themselves is The Olympic  Journey: The Story of the Games, at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden,  a collaboration with The Olympic Museum in Lausanne and BP.

Specially  created for London, the exhibition features the personal stories of 16 great  Olympians and includes artefacts from The Olympic Museum as well as all the  Summer Medals from 1896 and all the Summer Torches from 1936.
I hope you have a very enjoyable stay in London this summer and do make  sure you experience some of the great arts and culture we have on offer as well  as the sport!
