Prime Minister David Cameron

You’ve arrived in our capital city at a truly special time. After years of planning, the Olympic and Paralympic Games 2012 are finally here. From athletics in the extraordinary Olympic Park to beach volley ball right by Buckingham Palace, this is going to be a month to remember. The whole world is going to be watching people strive to be the fastest, the strongest, the best – and you’re right in the centre of it all.

Beyond the sport, this city has just about everything the visitor could wish for: attractions like the London Eye, Big Ben and the Tate Modern; beautiful parks; and restaurants that reflect this city’s amazing diversity, from Lebanese to Spanish to Chinese to British fish and chips. And there is always the rest of the United Kingdom to enjoy while you are here.

You could take in Edinburgh Castle in Scotland, the Giant’s Causeway in Northern Ireland, Snowdonia in Wales and everything London has to offer – all in one trip.

This city is, in short, a great place to visit, to study, to work and do business. Over the coming weeks we want to demonstrate that to the rest of the world. For now, I want to extend a very warm welcome to you. Have a fantastic time here in London – and enjoy the Games.

David Cameron Prime Minister.
